5 things to do when you’re bored

Whether we like it or not, it’s practically impossible for a person not to get bored at some point or the other. Either we’re waiting in line at the doctor’s office, or we spend a lot of time commuting every day — the point is that there are loads of methods to combat boredom. You don’t even need a lot of imagination to make do with the time you might have available.

Without further ado, here are some great ideas for doing stuff when you feel like you’re starting to get bored.

Unless you like keeping organized all of the time, in which case you’re one of the few select people out there to be like that, you probably have issues keeping everything neat and tidy. What does organization mean, anyway?

When you’re at home, it’s clear that you can organize anything from your refrigerator to your bathroom or bookshelf. But what if you’re out of the house and you’re waiting for a bus, or you’re just on the subway for more than a quarter of an hour? Well, it’s simple, really. You can organize your phone storage. You’re very likely to have heaps of photos to delete, as well as apps you haven’t used since three months ago.

Cleanliness is godliness, right? Unfortunately, even though it might be a boring activity per se, it’s actually pretty good for you. You get a clean living or working environment that smells nice and that you know won’t endanger your health anytime soon. Besides, it burns a lot of calories. You’ll burn as many as 90 calories in just 15 minutes, so that’s 360 calories per hour.

Vacuuming is the most strenuous activity of all of the cleaning-related ones you might engage in. It’s true that it burns fewer calories than others, but it all depends on how hefty your vacuum really is.

There are many crafts, but also creative things you can do when you’re bored. If you like making handmade jewelry, for example, and you’re at home where you have all of your supplies, why not do that? Maybe you like painting or singing or playing a musical instrument. Who knows when you might hit it big with your next cover?

Photography is a way of creating new things, too. On your way to work or school, you can take shots of people, animals, or just the urban landscape you might see every day.

Play a game

If you have friends over and you’re getting bored, you’re either in the wrong mindset, or your buddies aren’t all that fun. But maybe you’ve used up all of the entertainment opportunities, and you’re sick and tired of the good old board games you’ve played time and again. How about some really cool puzzles, then?

In a worst-case scenario, you could play some online game with your friends, especially if they’re not even in the same town where you live.

Cooking is a very satisfying activity, and that’s because its results can be seen and tasted. If you learn how to cook, you will be able to feed yourself and those you care about. So, whenever you’re bored, you can try making a new and simple recipe.

Just don’t try out those that ask you to use very expensive ingredients unless you can buy them in a very limited amount. Otherwise, those spices might just as well go unused, and you might end up throwing them out months from now when you find them in your pantry.
